Mayor's Message

As you are aware, 2011 is Pickering's Bicentennial year. Not only is it a historic milestone, it is a marker for when we boldly move forward as a city. For this reason, I am particularly excited about this year's Mayor's Gala. It will be an elegant and extravagant affair that will pay homage to our storied past, while celebrating who we are as a people, and where we are going as a city.

As this year's Gala is an all-encompassing celebration of Pickering, I am proud to have Juno-award winning singer-songwriter, and Pickering resident, Sarah Slean, as our headline entertainer. This homegrown chanteuse is guaranteed to enthrall all in attendance with her unique style and sublime talent.

Please remember that all of the funds raised for this year's Gala will go directly back to the community to support those in need. For example, Epilepsy Durham Region is committed to promoting independence and optimal quality of life for individuals living with epilepsy; the Children's Wish Foundation provides a once in a lifetime experience for children diagnosed with life threatening illnesses; and FOOTPRINTS provides respite services for families with children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD). Finally, the Rouge Valley Ajax-Pickering Hospital will receive the remaining funds which will go towards the Image is Everything MRI campaign.

Once again, thank you for your continued support of this wonderful community fundraiser. Together, we will ensure that Pickering remains one of the very best places in Canada to live, work and play.
