As mayor of this wonderful city, improving the quality of life in our community is one of my highest priorities.  That is why, in 2005, I created the City of Pickering Mayor’s Gala.  My intention was to establish a signature fundraising event for the City, where all of the proceeds would go back into our community.

Through the generous support of our business community, we have raised nearly a quarter of a million dollars for the Ajax-Pickering hospital, our veterans, and the future construction of a Durham West Arts Centre.

I am confident that this year’s Gala will be an even bigger and better celebration. The theme of which will be “Rock ‘n Roll, with a touch of class.” History acknowledges that Rock ‘n Roll ushered in a new era of freedom, expression, social consciousness, and to an extent, a little bit of rebellion.  And as both an era and icon, Rock ‘n Roll is synonymous with the ideals of youth.

It is for this reason that we will be donating $30,000 of the proceeds from this year’s Mayor’s Gala to three local youth organizations – Big Brothers Big Sisters of Ajax Pickering, Windreach Farm and The Youth Centre.  The majority of the funds will once again go towards the Rouge Valley Ajax-Pickering hospital.
